From weekend warriors to complex, hard-to-diagnose conditions — we watch how you move, find the real cause, and build a plan that gets you back to your life.
And you’re still working around the pain instead of living your life.
You’ve modified your workouts. You’ve skipped the hike, the 5K, the weekend with the kids because you weren’t sure your body could handle it. Maybe you went through PT somewhere else — ten minutes with a tech, a photocopied exercise sheet, and a discharge that didn’t actually fix anything.
Or maybe it’s more complicated than a normal sprain or strain. Maybe you’ve been told your pain “doesn’t show up on imaging.” Maybe you’ve seen provider after provider who couldn’t explain why your joints move the way they do, why you crash after activity, or why nothing quite adds up — and you’ve started to wonder if anyone actually will.
Here’s the truth: the problem was never that you didn’t try hard enough. The problem is that no one took the time to actually watch how you move and figure out why.
At True Health & Performance, that’s the whole visit — not a five-minute glance, but a real evaluation, from a Doctor of Physical Therapy who has built his career on the exact cases that get missed everywhere else.
Most clinics treat the symptom in front of them. Dr. Pete built True Health & Performance to do something different — actually find out why it’s happening, and build a plan around your real life, not a generic protocol.
Every visit is hands-on, one-on-one time with your Doctor of Physical Therapy. He watches you move, tests what everyone else assumed, and builds your plan around your sport, your job, and your family — not a laminated sheet of exercises.
Dr. Pete’s approach blends orthopedic and manual therapy training with a fitness-forward coaching background — he’s also a CrossFit-L1 coach at CrossFit Gratitude here in Kearney — so you don’t just get out of pain, you come out stronger and more capable than before.
“I can't be more happy with the team at THP. I started coming in for some shoulder pain, Dr.Pete helped me with that and then helped me with a strength training program. They are friendly AND knowledgeable!”
— Angie R., True Health & Performance PatientYour first visit starts with a real evaluation — not a five-minute glance. Dr. Pete watches how you move, tests what’s actually going on, and explains what he finds in plain language. No guessing, no generic protocol.
Your plan is built around your sport, your job, your family, and your goals — not a photocopied handout. You stay active through the process, with hands-on treatment and direct access to your DPT when questions come up between visits.
Getting out of pain is the start, not the finish line. Dr. Pete builds the strength and capability around the root cause so it doesn’t come back — that’s the standard for every patient who walks through the door.
Dr. Pete Trujillo is a Doctor of Physical Therapy (University of St. Mary) who has been practicing since 2015, with advanced training in orthopedics, manual therapy, and sports rehabilitation.
He is among the less than 1% of physical therapists who are fellowship-trained, completing advanced fellowship training in orthopedic manual physical therapy. He also holds a Diploma in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (MSKUS) and is certified in dry needling, giving him a unique combination of skills for evaluating and treating orthopedic and sports-related conditions.
But what sets Dr. Pete apart isn’t simply the credentials—it’s how he brings those skills together.
He’s a fitness-forward clinician with a CrossFit Level 1 (CF-L1) credential and a strong background in strength, conditioning, and performance. He understands training, load, and movement—not just from the treatment table, but through the lens of fitness and performance. His goal is to help patients not only get out of pain, but return stronger and more confident in the activities that matter to them.
Above all, True Health & Performance is a family business. Dr. Pete built the practice alongside his wife, Kyla Trujillo, LMT, who leads its massage therapy services. Together, they’re raising two boys of their own and building a practice rooted in the community they call home.
That family-centered approach is a big part of what makes True Health & Performance different: advanced care, modern technology, and a personal experience that still feels local.
I highly recommend the entire team at True Health and Performance. My 16 year-old son has been rehabbing from a torn meniscus and they have been the best. Torey and Pete are the best. They are very knowledgeable about his specific PT protocol and worked with him and his doctor on plans to get him back on the football field as soon as safely possible.
Dr. Peter Trujillo and Dr. Torey Kertz are the most knowledgeable Physical Therapist I have ever had the pleasure of working with. They are very good at listening and analyzing exactly what you need to do or change to make your recovery as successful as possible. I had my right knee replaced and the left one replaced 7 weeks later. They are very good at setting realistic recovery goals and a plan to get you back in the groove again. Best physical therapist around.
I chose to go out of network to treat my plantar fasciatis from pickleball because Pete is a fellow pickleballer. He used a multimodal approach: cupping, massaging, exercises, an on-line home stretching program, arch supports, and a stern talking-to for not stretching before playing. And, he assessed previous injuries that may be affecting my feet. I am impressed at his in-depth knowledge and ability to develop a plan of care that I can commit to.
Dr. Torey Kertz is an amazing physical therapist. He truly wants to help his patients to succeed. He Listens to your concerns and helps you build a plan that works in your best interest. I was struggling with knee arthritis and bone spurs as well as disc issues. I was struggling to do stairs, stand for long periods or walk long distances, after just a few sessions that changed dramatically. My overall pain also decreased. I highly recommend Dr. Kertz.
Highly recommend Dr. Pete with True Health and Performance! He worked with my teenage daughter on her knee issues. He communicated the plan with her and us throughout the process and gave her the tools to keep working on her own. Would definitely go back!
I stupidly tried to break up a dog fight. In the process I received massive bites to both hands. Following emergency room treatment, I started physical therapy with True Performance. I now have full use and strength of both hands and all fingers with no lingering issues. Truely amazing results!
Another week of working around it. Another missed hike, missed workout, missed weekend with the kids. You already know “give it time” isn’t the plan — you need someone who actually watches how you move and tells you the truth about what’s going on.
That starts with one visit.
